Lucilla Jones, Life and work are inseparable for Lucilla. Using her unique ability to capture dynamic movement she chooses her subjects as vehicles for emotional communication: a love of the theatre , music, dance and the beauty of horses in motion inspire in her a personal and spontaneous response. Lucilla studied at the Ruskin School of Fine Art and Drawing, Oxford. On leaving she began sketching at race meetings in Ireland and the UK establishing a reputation as one of the most accomplished and respected painters of horses in action. This led to many commissions including six Chinese brush paintings for Singapore Jockey Club. With subsequent Exhibitions in London UK, USA and Mexico City.
In 1991 she was commissioned to record a tour by 45 Royal Marine Commando in Northern Ireland. This lead to subsequent Military works.
Later her ability to capture movement led her into the world of theatre, dance and music attending rehearsals at The Royal Ballet, Covent Garden and with The Welsh National Opera, Cardiff. She has been "Artist in residence" at many festivals including "Brecon Jazz" and the Billingham international festival of Music and Dance.
From a lifetime involvement with horses she has obtained a deep understanding of equine nature and a gift of looking at her subject without any cloying sentimentality. The horse as actor in our games of racing, Polo and jumping, the horse as ballet dancer in the art of classical dressage. The horse as subject for a portrait, its head turned to meet our gaze.. all and each tell the story or the alliance of horse and man.
With a free expressionistic style and bold use of colour her paintings are full of vibrancy, light and atmosphere.
Lucilla has the vision. Like the very best of Art, her work remains in the memory. The imagination, flair and expressive technique with which she paints have made her work highly collectible by both Galleries and private buyers.
