Lucilla Jones, Life and work are inseparable for Lucilla. Using her unique ability to capture /dynamic movement in a few simple lines, with a keen, observant eye she chooses her subjects as vehicles for emotional communication: a love of the theatre , music, dance and the beauty of horses in motion inspire in her a personal and spontaneous response. With a free expressionistic style and bold use of colour, her paintings are full of vibrancy, light and atmosphere.

Lucilla studied at the Ruskin School of Fine Art and Drawing, Oxford. On leaving she specialized in Portraiture and the study of horses and other animals completing many commissions of racing and polo and paintings for the Military.

Raised in a family of horse lovers, she has a deep understanding of equine nature and gift of looking at the horse as subject without any cloying sentimentality:

“Horses have been a passion from early childhood, involved with either riding or drawing them they became my first medium for contact and expression. Throughout history and in Art the horse has been a symbol of power, strength , freedom and spirituality . It is my aim as an artist to paint that essence.”

In recent years, since spending much of her time in Spain, her work is inspired using broader brush strokes fusing her figurative lines and abstract shapes with a symbolic and enigmatic quality, freeing her imagination to discover the unseen.

‘’The space around my figures is not the space we inhabit –colours combined with line weaving a dynamic rhythmic composition...

Images of movement---man and animal locked in a timeless association of consciousness and spirit .In painting internal vision is as important as external perception.’’
